What Does It Cover?
Section I: Own Damage Or Loss
The insurer will protect you from any loss or damage to your vehicle and its accessories due to –
- Fire, explosion, self-ignition, or lightning.
- Burglary or theft.
- Riots and strikes.
- Earthquake (fire and shock damage).
- Flooding, typhoons, hurricanes, storms, tempests, inundation, cyclones, hailstorms, or frost.
- Accidental external causes.
- Intentional malicious actions.
- Acts of terrorism.
- Transporting by road, rail, inland waterway, lift, elevator, or air.
- Landslides or rockslides.
This is subject to depreciation as listed below, when replacing parts –
- For rubber, nylon, plastic parts, tires, tubes, batteries, and airbags - 50%.
- For fibreglass components - 30%.
- For all glass parts - None.
The depreciation rate for all other parts, including wooden ones, will follow this table –

When it comes to painting, a 50% depreciation will be applied only to the cost of the painting materials. If the painting charges are mentioned as a part of a consolidated bill, the materials part will be considered 25% of the total painting charges for applying the depreciation.
Section II: Liability to Third Parties
The insurance company will provide compensation to you in the event of –
- Loss of life or physical injury to another person.
- Damage to property, except in case it is owned by you or is held in your care or control.
Section III: Personal Accident Cover for Owner Driver
Personal Accident (PA) Cover in two-wheeler insurance financially covers physical disablement or death because of an accident. This coverage is provided alongside your vehicle insurance, similar to general insurance which provides financial compensation.
In the event of your demise or bodily injury due to an accident, the insurer will provide compensation according to the following scale –

What It Will Not Cover?
The insurance will not be liable/responsible for any payments related to –
- Consequential loss, depreciation, regular use causing wear and tear, mechanical or electrical failures or breakages.
- Damages to tyres and tubes, except if your vehicle is also damaged at the same time. In this case, the insurer will only pay 50% of the replacement cost.
- Loss or damage to accessories due to theft, burglary or housebreaking, unless and until the vehicle is also stolen at the same time.
- Any accidental loss or damage while the insured person or anyone driving the vehicle with your permission is influenced by alcohol or drugs.
Insured Declared Value (IDV)
IDV stands for the vehicle's estimated market value. It is the highest sum that your two-wheeler insurance will cover in a claim. The IDV changes yearly because of depreciation.

General Exceptions
- Under this policy, the insurer will not be responsible for –
- Accidental loss, damage, or liability occurring outside the specified geographical area.
- Claims arising from contractual obligations.
- The insurer will not cover accidental loss, damage, or liability that happens if your vehicle is –
- being used in ways not allowed by the “Limitations as to Use”.
- driven by someone other than the one mentioned in the driver's clause.
- Any accidental damage or loss to any property, any resulting expenses, or any consequential losses.
- Any liability from radioactivity contamination due to nuclear fuel or waste.
- Any accidental damage or loss arising from nuclear weapons material.
- Any accidental damage or loss linked to war, invasion, actions by foreign enemies, hostilities, etc. If a claim is made, you must demonstrate that the accidental damage, loss, or liability happened independently. If such proof is not provided, the insurance company won't be liable to make any payment for that claim.
Add-Ons Available With HDFC Ergo (Two-Wheeler) Insurance
By paying an extra premium, the standard depreciation mentioned in Section One of the policy is removed.
Insured Person’s Obligations –
- Inform the insurance company about the claim within 7 days of the loss or damage.
- Contact the insurance company’s toll-free number to arrange for a vehicle survey.
Specific Exclusions – This coverage does not apply to the following parts – Batteries and Tyres.
A voluntary deductible is an amount that you choose to pay before making an insurance claim. If you pick a higher voluntary deductible, your insurance premium will be lower.

Note: The voluntary deductible is added on top of the mandatory deductible, as stated in the standard motor insurance policy.
- Emergency Assistance Cover
By paying an extra premium to the insurance company, the insurer will cover the following services if your vehicle is disabled due to loss or damage covered under Section 1 of the policy –
- Minor repairs at the accident spot
- Towing assistance for accidents and breakdowns
- Fixing flat tires
- Delivering emergency fuel
- Assisting with vehicle key issues
- Arranging alternate travel
- Organising accommodation
- Referring to ambulance services
- Facilitating medical evacuation
- Providing legal services help
- Jump-starting the battery
- Returning the vehicle/Continuing the journey
- Helping with continuation or return travel
- Offering translation service
These rules are dependent on the terms, conditions, limitations, and exceptions of this policy.
- No Claim Bonus Protection
By making an additional payment to the insurance company, you can keep any accumulated No Claim Bonus intact even if there is a loss or damage to your vehicle under Section 1 of this Policy for the specific instances mentioned below –
- Loss or accidental damage to the windshield glass by an external object.
- Loss or damage to a parked vehicle due to accidental external causes.
- Loss or damage to a parked vehicle due to flood, earthquake, or other specified perils.
This clause only applies to partial losses covered and is limited to a maximum of 3 occurrences during the policy term. This is subject to the terms, conditions, limitations, and exceptions of this policy.
If your vehicle is declared a total loss due to an accident or if your vehicle is stolen and not recovered within the policy period, the insurer will pay –
- The vehicle's replacement value based on the invoice.
- The original value (as per the invoice) of the vehicle at the time of purchase if it is no longer manufactured.
You will need to pay an extra premium for this coverage.
Specific Exclusions
The insurer will not be held liable for paying –
- Claims for total loss, constructive total loss, or theft that aren't eligible under Section I of this policy.
- Theft claims where a First Information Report (FIR) hasn't been filed.
- Any additional accessories, like non-built-in electrical or non-electrical items, electronics, bi-fuel kits, or separate fibreglass fuel tanks mentioned in the invoice but not insured or listed in the policy schedule.
With an extra premium payment, the insurer agrees that if you have a valid and eligible claim under Section I (Own Damage) of the two-wheeler insurance, they will provide you with a cash allowance of Rs 200 per day.
Special Conditions
- This cash allowance will be given for a maximum of 10 days, but only in cases of partial loss repairs.
- The cash allowance is subject to a waiting period of 3 days from the survey date. This means no payment will be made if the repair period is less than 3 days. If the repair takes longer than 3 days, payment will be made for the full number of days, up to a maximum of 10 days.
- The cash allowance starts from the day the vehicle is handed over to the workshop and is communicated to the insurer. It ends when the workshop informs you to collect the vehicle.
- This benefit is available for only one claim paid or pending in each policy year.
Special Exclusions
- The cash allowance will not be given for the period when the vehicle is stuck at the repair shop due to the unavailability of any part or materials.
- Drive-Through Protection for Engine
By making an extra payment to the insurer, they agree to cover any loss or damage to the engine of your vehicle, including its main parts and the gearbox, if it is due to waterlogging or leakage of lubricating oil from the engine due to an accident.
Special Conditions
- Coverage for water damage is applicable only when it is evident that the vehicle was submerged or stopped in a waterlogged area.
- Coverage for lubricating oil leakage is applicable when there is clear proof of accidental damage to the engine or related parts.
- All reasonable precautions must be taken to prevent loss or damage and to avoid making it worse.
- This benefit is available for only one claim paid or pending in each policy year.
Special Exclusions
- The company will not be responsible for the cost of lubricating oil in the assembly.
- Loss or damage that's already covered under the manufacturer’s warranty or a recall campaign won't be included.
- Any increase in damage, including corrosion, because of a delay in informing the insurer and/or retrieving the vehicle from a waterlogged area will not be covered.
If you own more than one vehicle, you can get a discount of up to 20% on the base own damage rates for each additional vehicle. You just need to declare the vehicles owned by you and they can be added to the policy as an endorsement or separately.

If your vehicle is in the garage for accidental repairs for more than a certain number of days (mentioned below), the insurer will provide you with the Equated Monthly Instalment amount (EMI) as stated in the policy schedule - provided you pay an additional premium to the insurance company,
Special Conditions
- The policy schedule should include the hypothecation/lease clause.
- The benefit is limited to the EMI amount mentioned in the original loan/lease agreement.
- The accidental damage to your vehicle must be eligible under Section I (own damage partial loss).
- This benefit is available once during each policy year.
- The benefit amount will be paid in your name, provided you have a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the financier as specified in the policy schedule.
- The 30-day waiting period for this benefit starts from the day you agree to start the repairs and once the availability of all spare parts is confirmed by the surveyor and repairer.
Special Exclusions
- If there is a lack of available spare parts, such days will not be considered.
- This additional coverage will not apply to total loss, theft, and constructive total loss cases.
Number of Days
- 30 days - One Equated Monthly Instalment Amount (EMI).
- 60 days - Two Equated Monthly Instalment Amounts (EMIs).
- 90 days - Three Equated Monthly Instalment Amounts (EMIs).
By making an extra premium payment to the insurance company, you can get coverage for the deducted amount due to depreciation on replaced parts, provided the depreciation waiver is mentioned in the policy schedule. This applies if a valid and eligible claim is made under Section I (Own Damage) of your two-wheeler package insurance.
Special Conditions
- This benefit will not be used to replace parts of the vehicle that are not necessary for replacement under Section I (Own Damage) of the two-wheeler package policy.
- The decision about the necessity or irreparability of replacing a part will be made by the surveyor/analyst approved by HDFC ERGO, not by you or the repair shop/garage.
- This benefit is available for only one claim paid or pending during each policy year.
Special Exclusions
- The insurance company will not be responsible for cases where a loss is covered simultaneously by any manufacturer’s warranty, recall campaign, or other similar packages.
- Emergency Medical Expenses
If you pay an additional premium to the insurance company, it is agreed that the insurer will cover your reasonable medical costs incurred due to bodily injury caused by an accident directly linked to your vehicle. This coverage also applies while getting on or off your vehicle or when travelling on it. The coverage goes up to the sum insured, with a maximum of Rs 1 Lakh in multiples of Rs 10,000. This extended coverage applies to both hospitalisation and outpatient treatment.
Terms and Conditions
- The insurer will make no payment if you make a claim for –
- Deliberate self-harm, suicide, or attempted suicide.
- Physical defects, weaknesses, or conditions.
- An accident under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Sickness, disease, or medical conditions that aren't directly caused by the accident.
- Psychosomatic disorders, whether from an accident or other causes.
- Any physiotherapy treatment.
- Any cost without a valid original bill, receipt, and prescription from the attending medical professional, hospital, or nursing home.
- Expenses for treatment starting more than 5 days after the accident date.
- The insurer will provide coverage only after prior approval from the insured specified in the policy.
- The payment will go directly to the injured person or their legal representative, serving as a full settlement.
- The passengers on the vehicle must not exceed the vehicle's seating capacity at the time of the accident.
- This benefit is available for only one claim paid or pending during the policy period.
